Ferdinand Maschinenfabrik AG is the best proof that Emmental has far more to offer than just beautiful countryside and cheese with holes. The company focuses on niche products.
Steck was responsible for building the two diesel locomotives Hm 2/2 No. 9 and 10 of the Brienz-Rothorn Railway in 1975, both of which have been running for over 40 years. Last winter, No. 10 underwent a complete overhaul.
Steck, located in Bowil, is the only company in Switzerland that designs and manufactures construction machines from A to Z. (A manually operated double-drum vibration roller STECK ZW10 is shown in the picture.)
Small factory for big machines
Steck drills holes in Emmental - but not in the cheese.
